Histology for Biology…. Hey that rhymes!
For anyone trying to learn Human Anatomy and Physiology this site is an excellent resource. It was created by Karen Hart at peninsula college for her biology students. She took the time to post pictures of all the slides she uses in the class. It has great labeled images of epithelium cells, bone tissue, connective tissue, cross sections of epipyseal plates, sebaceous glands, nerve cells, lymph nodes, cardiac muscle… It has so much available to help review for lab tests. So if you need to be able to identify cells check this out. It is free, and doesn’t require any logging in. Therefore you do not have to be a student at Peninsula College to use this resource.
Check it out here at at Peninsula College’s histology Site
How to make full use of your textbooks
Many textbooks now come with online resources. Although you may loose the ability to sell books back to your campus bookstore, you should consider using them. These options are great study aids, especialy when learning complex new ideas. When learning about things in cellular biology for instance, Pearson (publisher) gives online animations and movies to help you grasp the Kreb cycle. It is rather complicated so seeing each step and how the chemicals change and reform is a wonderful study aid. In human anatomy many publishers have anatomy guides, interactive disections, and physiology animations. Overall most textbooks have quizes, reviews and games to help you remember in thier online resources. So don’t forget this study tool, when you purchse your next textbook. You can usualy find all of the information inside of the front or rear cover.
If you have a website you particularly like, please post it as a comment. I will put a few up later tonight. Even if you do no thave the textbook access code, publishers allow students to purchase access. So esentially anyone can study the online resources.
Here is a good place to check if you would like access to online resources but do not have a particular text book. You can purshase access to the ir products for a small fee. Usualy $20-$30 per subject. Click HERE for Pearson Publishing.
BEST general conversion chart…
to see the chart go HERE… It was throwing off my formatting so I moved it to a separate page. But it is great for general chemistry, volume/mass conversions, and basic math conversions. You can copy and past it as an image to a word document, print it and take it with you. Just right click the chart, hit the control key and the c key, and then open a document hit control and v.
Good luck!!
Taking requests…
I just finished up summer quarter and have some time before I have to start Fall quarter. I am going to be doing some writing for Nursing Linkup, a new site for nurses and nursing students. I am also going to be devoting some time to my blog and helping my readers find the information they need to be successful in college.
So if you are having trouble finding something specific or have a question please post a comment and ask. I will gladly help my readers figure out anything I can and you never know it may make a great post topic.
Thank you!
Free tutoring-that’s right I said free.
If you are taking any summer classes chances are your college doesn’t have any free tutors on staff. I found this out this week while trying to answer some of my own chemistry questions. I did a search and found http://www.tutor.com, They offer the first 25 minutes for free. You don’t need a credit card to use the free session. The site provides online tutoring using a chat and white board format. You can write out a mathematical or chemical equation and they can visually and verbally walk you though it step by step.
FREE PDA software for Nurses!!!
Many nursing students and med students these days are using PDA’s to help organize the tons of information that comes there way. It is a great tool and there are lots of programs available for the medical field. Unfortunately many are fairly expensive. So students may mot be able to afford all of the latest programs. So I have put together a few links to FREE PDA programs for the medical field. I hope you like them. Let me know if you would like to see any other programs listed via comments. I will add them to my post!
Here is a link to a page that has 41 free Palm OS and Pocket PC programs for your PDA. It is geared soward nursing and med students.

This next sit, Clinical Skills Online, provides online videos demontrating the core clinical skills was created for students in necessary for most Nursing, medical, dentist and veterinary medicine courses. You can download them to a PDA or just watch with your laptop.
Websites that explain Dimensional Analysis
This is the last in a series to help students with math skills.
Dimensional Analysis tutorials [keep in mind that dimensional analysis is usually done in chemistry and physics and nursing has only adapted it for use in medication calculation problems]:

*Special thanks to allnurses.com I found all of these websites after reading helpful posts about math and nursing calculations.
Websites with conversion charts (Nursing and Chemistry)
This is the fourth post in a series to help nursing students with math in nursing school and for the NCLEX.
Conversion charts:
