Half of All Americans Wouldn’t Buy FrankenFoods…If They Could Tell The Difference
A recent New York Times/CBS poll bears good news for ecopreneurs in the food industry. Fifty-Three percent of consumers said they would not buy genetically modified food. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell the difference between Frankenfoods and the real thing.
A new CBS News poll found that 87% of consumers would like GMO ingredients to be labeled, just as they are in Europe, Japan and Australia. Yet the U.S. Congress has never even held a vote on the issue, to give shoppers the opportunity to exercise their most basic right – to make a choice.
Once again, labeling decisions made by the FDA and USDA, influenced heavily by big agriculture are keeping consumers from understanding what is in their food. The FDA’s position is: GMOs are the “substantial equivalent” of conventional crops and so does not require “disclosure of genetic engineering techniques…on the label.”Of course, there’s an explanation for that.

Monsanto corn killing off bees
News from underground had an informative blog about Monsanto’s effect on the die off of bees wich has been in recent news. “Germany…published an article about the toxic nature of Monsantos Triple Hybrid GM corn and its effect on bees in ‘05. Why won’t the media here mention that GM corn is the likely cause of the bees disappearing? Could it be that Monsanto is a massive multinational corp with a market capitalization of 30 billion dollars?? Of course insects are seen as pests by most people. Most people who passed Earth Science class in high school understand that every part of the food chain is important and some, but not most, understand that bees perform a task that vital to our survival.”

My name is Corinne and I am a 28 year old nursing student at Peninsula College, in Washington. I applied to The Peninsula College School of Nursing in Spring of 2009 and was accepted into the Fall 2009 nursing program and like most students working through Nursing School it is a time really focus on being the best student and potential nurse you can be.
As with many adult students returning to college this is not my first career choice. I have worked as a book keeper and office assistant. However, I wanted to make a change after having my daughter (now two) and find something that I loved and could support myself doing. Nursing was a perfect fit.
In returning to school to complete my nursing prerequisites, I noticed several things. First there are an increasing number of adults returning to school and a lack of information available that addresses many of our needs. Second, Nursing school is extremely competitive and hard to get into even though the need for good nurses is through the roof. So this blog is primarily devoted to nursing students but may be helpful to any student really. Occasionally I throw in tidbits about politics and nutrition.
